History of the exfoliative cytology in Panama

Abstract
The introduction of exfoliative cytology in Panama begins with the recognition of the value of this screening test for the early detection of precancerous lesions of cervical cancer on an international level. It is driven by the establishment of both non-governmental and governmental institutions focused on cancer prevention. Furthermore, it is strengthened by the vision of many professionals who come together to contribute to the training of medical pathologists and cytotechnologists, aiming to reduce the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in Panamanian women and to detect benign and malignant lesions in other organs of the human body.
