Abstract

Peritoneal dialysis catheter placement surgery is a surgical procedure commonly performed to initiate dialysis treatment in advanced chronic kidney disease. In Panama, this modality is used in 20 % of dialysis patients. We carried out a retrospective study to describe the characterization of the catheter placement technique for peritoneal dialysis in a population of 130 patients from the Dr. Gustavo Nelson Collado Hospital program in Chitré, Herrera, in the period from 2014 to 2019, to evaluate complications. and establish recommendations to reinforce catheter placement programs at the National level, to support the peritoneal dialysis programs of the Social Security Fund.
